Mermaids

“From the depths, from the deep,

from the bottom of the abyss,

the whales call for the mermaid to be born.

She must rise to find her voice,

she must touch the sunlight that hovers

out of reach above the water.”

Meermin Meerlig (“Mermaid Light” in Afrikaans) is an artistic collaboration between Haidee Nel (sculptor), Marcelle Volckaert (soprano) and Pedro Cruz (cello).

You can see the mermaid sculpture at the exhibition “Sculpture On the Cliffs” at Gearings Point, Hermanus, South Africa, and In Swellendam, South Africa. For more information about the sculpture and Haidee Nel’s work, please visit the beautiful little rock out there on the internet where the sculpture has found it’s own special home: http://haideenel.blogspot.com/2018/08/meerlig-at-sculpture-on-cliffs.html?m=1.
